“I had tried it all and failed.” – Teresa McCloy
Are you someone who collects calendars and planners? I don’t mean someone who uses those productivity tools, but someone who buys them in hopes that they are going to change your life only to find that you don’t use them or they don’t live up to your expectations? If you are, Teresa McCloy is an Eagle who knows where you’re coming from and is here to help. I want to share Teresa’s story with you today to show what great success can come from identifying a specific need you see the world—even in yourself—and working diligently to meet it.
The Realife Process with Teresa McCloy
Terea McCloy’s business, The REALIFE Process, is all about helping people identify their real self, the real productivity process that will work for them, and creating real solutions that will work for them going forward. This innovative model began with Teresa identifying in her own life that “My patterns of behavior were costing me in all areas of my life,” and “I was losing passion for work, it was taking a toll on me physically, and it affected my relationships.” Instead of continuing to try and conform to productivity systems and standards that work for others, Teresa decided to create something new that would work for her—and that could help many others who find themselves in similar positions.
She first encountered the 48 Days community through the podcast in 2016, and actually joined Joanne and I on one of our cruises in the spring of 2017. At the time, she told us, “I was just starting my coaching business having moved out of a full time ministry position. My dreams and goals were around building a coaching business, mostly coaching clients 1-2-1.”
Just a few short years later, thanks to her diligence, creativity, and all-around go-getter attitude, Teresa’s REALIFE Process is thriving. They have 32 certified facilitators who work all over the country an use their framework “as a tool to serve their clients.” This model allows Teresa and REALIFE to empower their certified facilitators to empower other people, because at the core of her model is to help others help themselves.
REALIFE is not about creating the perfect productivity system that is going to work for everyone—that’s actually what Teresa and her facilitators and clients are trying to move away from doing. As her website highlights, Teresa “had tried it all–every book, every software, and every calendar/planner—to help me be more ‘productive.’ I’ll admit it, I was addicted to productivity and self-help. After years of living life with my hair on fire, I had to make a change.”
Focus On How Your Struggles Can Help Others
And it has been amazing to see Teresa’s decision to make a change in her own life blossom into the incredible business REALIFE is today. They have a podcast, facilitator training program, a robust business and life coaching program, and they have a book coming out this fall! I really want to highlight this growth because I’ve been fortunate to watch it as Teresa’s vision has come to life. If you’re someone who has a problem you think is specific to you, I encourage you to consider that others might struggle with similar issues and YOU could be the missing piece to solving their problems.
Teresa told us that she attributes her success to “developing a network of people that keep me in a growth mindset.” I really love the way she put this, because it reminds us that being in the right mindset is not some switch we just slip one time and it works forever. It’s something we have to cultivate and dedicate ourselves to, which is so much easier and more fruitful when we’re surrounded by people who support us and our vision.
She also told us that the network she’s developed over the years has also allowed her to keep “developing my coaching and business skills and continuing to pivot and validate my business until I found my sweet spot in the marketplace.” This attitude is crucial to sustainable success in the entrepreneurial world. If you want to keep growing and keep innovating, you also have to keep learning. And that learning isn’t limited to just developing your skills, but also learning more about yourself, about the market you want to be in, and what your ideal clients’ needs are.
And let me tell you, Teresa doesn’t just talk the talk—she walks the walk and helps others get on that path and walk it too. She’s generous with her insights through her business and she’s generous with them too in the Eagles community. She’s been on Monday Mentor calls, hosted office hours, and fielded countless questions and sparked many conversations amongst our Eagles.
Teresa McCloy’s Advice To Us
Part of why she is so giving of her insights is because part of her advice to people who are a few steps behind her in the business-building process is to “Spend time with people that are a few steps ahead of you.” That’s someone that really helped Teresa when she was building REALIFE, and now she’s in a position to be that “few steps ahead person” for others!
Teresa’s final advice is to “Invest in yourself and your learning as much as you can and be ready to change and adapt and not get stuck for too long in one place.” I totally agree, and if you want to find out how Teresa is helping her clients get unstuck and keep adapting, you can find out more at https://www.therealifeprocess.com/
