I don’t know about you but this has been an eventful week for us here in Florida. The response Joanne and I have to unexpected and unwelcome events is to ask – “What does this make possible?” Times like the recent hurricane here in Florida always bring the seeds of new opportunities. Let’s unpack some questions from listeners who have been given some new opportunities this week.
Episode #851 October 07, 2022
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real-life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show. Thank you for being a listener of this podcast. I love hearing from you and being allowed to think through the questions we all have about finding or creating work that matters, for people who care.Questions:
If you had to choose your top 10 influencers for your life who would they be?
This was a tough one, but here are the first 10 that come to mind (not in any order): Earl Nightingale – he was the one who recorded The Strangest Secret that has impacted me heavily throughout my life, starting at 13 years old. Napoleon Hill Zig Ziglar Jim Rohn Jesus Joanne Miller Leonardo DaVinci Thomas Edison Mark Victor Hansen Seth Godin I could spend hours on each of those. You’ll be hearing more about those as I add a second podcast soon.I’m approaching 50 and want to make a change that makes sense for my life but don’t know where to start.
Be open to the possibilities. One in seven jobs today are virtual. Check places like: Indeed.com Zipcruiter.com LinkedIn.com Flexjobs.com Amazon.jobs These are high-profile, legitimate companies that have thousands of jobs available. It’s time for you to say, “What does this make possible,” and get back out there and find an opportunity that fits. You ought to be able to find four opportunities in the next 48 days that are really good fits for you — things that you are really excited about doing that pay you more than you are already making. Every time there’s change, our first reaction is that I’m going to somehow experience less. If somebody loses their job, they cancel their vacation, turn in their leased car and take their kids out of private school. Those are knee-jerk responses. Many times, 18 months later, I hear that losing that job was the best thing that ever happened to me. I got a new position. I’m making more money than I ever made before. I reduced my commute by an hour a day. I get three weeks off instead of two for vacation. Everything got better, not worse. Be confident that there is a better opportunity out there than you’ve ever experienced in your life, and you can find it in the next 48 days. Continue to ask yourself, “What does this make possible.”I’m trapped by my feel fear of failure – what do you suggest I do to overcome this obstacle?
“Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I would like to see you living in better conditions.” “Consult not your fears, but your hopes and your dreams.” Here are a few podcasts and blogs on 48days.com to check out: Fear Is the Cheapest Room in the House I Was Trapped In Fear Until I Stepped Off the Edge What’s the Difference Between Fear and Courage This is a mindset issue. Decide that you are not going to live in fear. What are you saying to yourself that starts with, “I am.” – I am scared? I am always tired? I am busy? I am so stupid? What you follow “I am” with is what you invite into your life. So instead, say to yourself, I am confident. I am willing to try something new. I am excited about the new opportunity that this obstacle has created.Quotation:
