Questions:
Can I get a job when I get out of prison?
Are there indicators now about what kind of person I’ll be in retirement?
There’s a connection between gratitude and a rich life.If you had the opportunity to advise a nineteen-year-old whose personality was identical to the personality style of Mister Rogers, what career path would you recommend to that nineteen-year-old?
I love this setup. Now, you hear me talk a lot about the importance of knowing yourself. “Know thyself. Unto thine own self be true and thou canst not be false to any man,” the old Shakespeare saying that we often use, and I say in 48 Days To the Work You Love. that 85% of the process of having the confidence of proper direction in your career or business comes from looking inward. The more you know about yourself, the more you can have the confidence of moving in the proper direction for work that fits you. Let’s take Mister Rogers. We’re going to use him as an example of someone who is a high S on the DISC Personality Profile. DISC stands for dominance, influencing steadiness, and compliance. There is no right or wrong, good or bad about any of those. But if you know what you are, then you can operate in that find and environment that embraces what you know about yourself. So what was Mister Rogers’ DISC Personality? He was a High S — somebody who is steady, accepting, caring, supportive, pleasant, sincere, loyal, warm, reliable, careful, emotional, patient, calm, stable, and amiable, So does that mean there are fewer opportunities if you are a high S? Absolutely not. Mister Rogers was an empath — somebody who has a lot of empathy. Someone who feels the emotions of other people know they want to be in a profession where they can help the vulnerable and less fortunate. So in Mister Rogers’ case, this lead him to a career centered around helping children. Although he was very connected to people, there’s still a lot of evidence that he was an introvert. He had a very strict routine, which allowed him a lot of alone time and quiet time, especially in the morning. Mister Rogers always started his day with prayer and study and answering letters. And then he swam laps before going into the studio. In the afternoon, he always took a nap, and then went to bed by 930. So, having set the stage, what kind of jobs or careers are going to be an appropriate fit for this 19-year-old who is just like Mister Rogers? Now certainly, there’s not going to be one thing. The 19-year-old is still going to have to explore a variety of things to then fine tune into one choice, but it’s going to be something like human resources director, a therapist or counselor, an executive assistant in somebody in customer support, but could be a physician, a pediatrician, nurse, dental hygienist, a dentist, an accountant, pharmacist, service technician. We could go on. As you know, I like the entrepreneurial world. I like things that are not as predictable, not as traditional, not as secure. Does that mean that in order to be an entrepreneur, you need to be a hard-driving, outgoing, extroverted, kind of person? Not at all. You can be any personality style and still be extremely successful as an entrepreneur, again if you understand yourself. Some other celebrities you would probably recognize who are a High S Personality Style are:- David Beckham, soccer superstar
- Prince
- Taylor Swift
- Mother Teresa
- Mahatma Gandhi
- Peyton Manning
- Michael J Fox
