A listener says she wants to build a hospital but is currently “dependent on my family.” Does that mean her dream is dead? Not at all. Everyone started with obstacles and not having money is the easiest one to overcome.
Episode #867 January 27, 2023
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real-life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
Questions:
My job is sucking out all the creativity I used to have.
Instead of looking at the “sunk cost” of your education to this point, look at what you want to be doing three years from now.How can I overcome my insecurity that my technical chops may not be as good as competitors in the same space?
There will always be people who are better than you in your area of expertise, but it doesn’t matter. There are a lot of factors that go into starting and running a successful business. Your talent is probably 15% of the process. Your ability to position yourself, your savviness in marketing yourself well, and your ability to handle money and control expenses are all a part of it as well. Yes, you have to be good at what you do, but you only have to be better than the people you are helping. My advice is to start with a business plan.I’d like to build a hospital but I don’t have any money.
Yes, it doesn’t sound like you’re in a position to build a 100-bed hospital. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything to act on your dream. Start writing posts and joining online forums in the areas of your expertise. Develop a presentation on the topic. Write a book and get it out there. Then you can see your dream become a reality.“Lack of money is no obstacle. Lack of an idea is an obstacle.” – Ken HakutaGood ideas attract money.
