Management guru Peter Drucker always recommended that you examine every part of your business regularly to determine if there is anything you are doing now that you wouldn’t do again if you could start over.
What if you did this Zero-Based planning for your LIFE? If you could wipe the slate clean on January 1st, and look at your life in this way, what would you change? The real hallmark of truly successful people is not that they do more but that they can decide what they are going to stop doing. What are you going to Stop Doing on January 1st?
I spent the entire day Monday working on my goals for 2015. I’ve always enjoyed the process of clarifying my own direction, but this year I’m using Michael Hyatt’s 5 DAYS TO YOUR BEST YEAR EVER process. And I’ve been surprised at the new insights I’m getting. I had to answer questions like:
“If the last year were a movie of your life, what would the genre be? Drama, romance, adventure, comedy, tragedy, or a combination?”
“If you know what you want, what’s holding you back?”
I also got reminders that people who decide in advance what their year will look like:
- make more money
- are more productive
- are healthier and live longer
- are happier and more satisfied in their lives
I’m totally jazzed about what I’m getting down on paper for 2015. What about you? Check out Michael’s program if you’re really ready to join me for your best year ever! Then give me a 30 day update on how the year you decided on is unfolding.
Finding something to stop doing is a challenge for me. I have already thought of many new things I want to take on this year. But for my own sanity, you are so right- I will need to let some things go. I already don’t watch tv or do Facebook, so I’ll have to dig a little deeper. Thanks for this challenge, Dan.
