Can you make a difference in the world?
A listener asks if an average person with average abilities can really make a difference. You should be able to identify five people who have made a big difference in your life. Are you on anyone else’s list? You really can make a dent in the universe today?
Episode #749 October 30, 2020
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
We unpacked just one question in this episode – because it has such massive implications.
Question:
Can an average person with average abilities really make a difference?
According to Dr. Phil McGraw, you can trace who you’ve become in this life to three types of external factors:
- Ten Defining Moments
- Seven Critical Choices
- Five Pivotal People
In No More Dreaded Mondays, I list the 5 predictors of success (who make a difference):
- Passion
- Determination
- Talent – discover where it is that you rise to the top
- Self Discipline
- Faith
My recommendation for president If others looked at your performance for the last four years, would they vote for you to be re-elected?
Would you vote for you? How have you progressed toward the goals you announced back in 2016? What about the ones you set for 2020? Yes, we’ve all had challenges this year but if people were looking at how you’ve responded this year, how you’ve realigned for those challenges – would they vote for you to be their leader for the next four years? Are you excited about having you in charge of your life for the next four years? What promises did you make yourself and those around you for the year we are finishing now? Did you deliver? Have you taken responsibility for the way this year has gone for you – or have you pointed fingers at the economy, the pandemic, the government, the company or your spouse? What are the people who know you best saying about your performance this year? What are your critics saying about your competence and leadership? If you were faced with a debate with someone who strongly disagrees with your actions this year, would you still be confident you had stayed true to your mission, values and purpose? Are you comfortable defending your decisions even if they are not popular with the majority of people around you? Have you been tempted to conform to the crowd mentality even when your heart is telling you otherwise? Are you concerned about the media feed, the brainwashing, the extreme political bias and the resulting crowd mentality that seems to be ignoring common sense, faith and reason right now? Vote for yourself – and be a candidate that others want to follow as well. It will not likely get you a political position but it will establish you as a powerful force for what is virtuous and praiseworthy.
