How To Discern God’s Will For You
These platitudes about God’s will can sometimes leave us sitting on the side of the road feeling lost. God is not going to tell you to buy a Ford vs a Chevy. You’re gonna have to do the research to make an intelligent decision. Being in God’s will is like being on a cruise ship – you need to be on the ship but you get to choose your cabin.
I’ve got specific instructions for this listener to take action.
Episode #689 November 08, 2019
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real-life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
Questions:
Unemployment is at an all-time low…so why can’t I find a job?
You are not limited to one kind of job. Back up a little bit and take a look at the big picture — who you are and what you’re all about. Vocation is the big picture — how do you want to be remembered? Career is a subset of that. How you’re going to meet your goal. Job is the smallest component and what you do daily to get a paycheck. Changing jobs should not change your vocation. God is not going to tell you exactly what to do. Being in God’s will is kind of like being on a cruise ship. You may be on the right cruise ship, but you have a choice of which cabin to stay in. I am totally confident that God is giving you the freedom and maybe even the gentle nudge to look at other options. Take a look at your skills and abilities, your personality traits and your values, dreams, and passions. Make a list of 20 things that would be strong possibilities, then narrow down to 4 or 5 that you think will suit you best. Then narrow down to one to zone in on for the next 30 (or 48 days).Feeling like a piece of trash at 53. I know I have a lot to offer, but nobody wants it apparently.
This mindset will cripple you. It will lock you into the reality you are describing. What we say to ourselves is the most powerful message anywhere. I just did a podcast with my son Kevin Miller on the Ziglar Podcast about replacing the statements I have to, I got to, I need to with I get to, I choose to. That changes our approach to our day instantly. Take a fresh look at yourself to come up with what really fits you and move into that with confidence. Make sure you’re doing things to live life fully even where you are now. It will open doors to the life you want.I know all the catchphrases: it takes longer than you expect, God’s got a plan, this is God’s will, stay positive.
Do you believe in all those personality tests companies give you before they continue with your interview?
Yes, I do. But those personality tests are a very tiny piece in the whole interview/hiring process. They are a very important piece. I take every personality test that comes on because I find them fascinating. Our preferred personality profile here at 48 Days is the DISC Profile. I use that with every person I coach before I ever see them. See these opportunities as a learning experience for yourself. How can I personalize a $10 product for each customer?
You can’t have a $10-15 item and personalize it for every customer. You can, however, have a selection of 10 verses for people to choose from.A comment from last week’s podcast about the disparity of salaries of football coaches and governors.
Listen to last week’s podcast. How can I practically shift to having an abundance mentality during a tough time?
See this as a season of your life. Focus on your goal, but don’t give up on having a life in the meantime (time with your kids and your wife, your health, etc.) If I were you, I’d be looking for other ways to eliminate debt quicker — maybe even something you can do as a family to bring in additional income. Check out our upcoming webinar on how to use 15 hours a week to generate significant income in a 6-month period of time.Quotation:
