I’m so aware right now of people who are fearful, discouraged, frustrated, and lonely. It’s clear the uncertainty and unexpected changes of the last two years have contributed to many feeling ungrounded and vulnerable. It doesn’t take money to give some of the most precious gifts: time, encouragement, a listening ear. Be very aware of those around you, especially during that time of year. Give the gift of a smile today. It costs you nothing, and you still have it to give again and again.
Episode #809 December 17, 2021
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real-life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
Questions:
Is it a bad thing to avoid work?
Check out Chapter 1 of 48 Days To the Work You Love – a lot of people believe that work is a trade-off for enjoyment. Is it unreasonable for us to expect our work to be an enjoyable activity? Don’t forget the opportunity to give from a full cup. Watch my video on this here. The other part of this is stewardship. Are you being a good steward of the talents and gifts you’ve been given? The things you do don’t have to necessarily be for money, but I think they should have a purpose. My husband and I both realized it wasn’t just job satisfaction we were struggling with, it was our entire lifestyle.
If we look around, it’s easy to see that our common teachings of success are at odds with what we know about building a life we love. I would suggest you ask yourself what you want your life to look like three years from now. It may actually require working less and/or making less money. “Your Best Life” isn’t the same for everyone. Start with setting goals in each of the 7 areas of your life: physical, spiritual, financial, family, career, personal development, and social. Grab my free Goal Setting Workbook to help you. When you talk about the books you have read, do you read every book word for word or is it just skimming for highlights?
I am not reading to brag about how many books I’ve read, so if I’m not getting what I think I should out of a book, I don’t necessarily continue reading it. I like to spend at least two hours a day reading. Next year, the Eagles Community will be studying one book a month together, starting with How To Win Friends and Influence People in January. Get my full reading list here. How can I find time for another income stream when working 60 hours a week already and taking care of family members with health issues?
If you’re already working 60 hours per week, I wouldn’t recommend you add something on by trying to create a side business. You may instead want to take a different job that may be less demanding for a time (not necessarily a dream job) that gives you the margin you need to build your side business/dream job. We’re actually giving my masterclass, How To Create Work and a Life You Love With 15 Hours Per Week FREE right now as a special gift during this gift-giving season. Get it here.Quotation:

RE: Avoiding work – Rabbi Plotkin of the Brooklyn Chabad gave a description of Hell from the orthodox Jewish perspective. His explanation was that Hell would be similar to a movie entitled, “It Could Have Been A Wonderful Life.” In Hell, the person would be shown the gits and talents he had been given at birth, and then shown all of the things he could have accomplished using these had he not been too lazy, too self-absorbed, or too timid to take a chance. It seems to me that the people avoiding work and contributing as little as possible have chosen the surest pathway to Hell there is.
