- 02:00 – Today’s Quote
- “You can’t depend on your judgement when your imagination is out of focus” – Mark Twain
- 3:50 – I just got fired and I feel like my whole world is crumbling. What advice do you have?
- Getting fired has no bearing on your ability to get a new job. Companies know that good people get fired every day.
- Don’t see it as a failure. Adversity is tough but it can be a learning experience
- 00 – Question from John: I’m the pastor of a growing church in South Dakota. I left a career as a firefighter 12 years ago to go into ministry. I feel called to ministry but still want to be a firefighter.
- Why do we divide urges up into spiritual and secular?
- Any calling can be an opportunity for ministry
- 14:10 – Do you believe people can find value in any passion?
- Do I believe people can find value? Absolutely! Monetary value? Maybe.
- It takes planning to turn passion and talent into money
- Chris Guillebeau: Born For This
- Either you win or you learn
- 16:00 – Interview with Chris Guillebeau
- Not everyone needs to be an entrepreneur: you can have a regular job and still do what you want to do
- You can’t really be a freelance firefighter or aeronautical engineer
- Even if you have your own job, it’s important to see yourself as ‘self-employed’: you’re leasing your talents to the company but focused on your own career
- “Take a commitment to resign your job every year”: evaluate exactly you’re doing and whether it’s the best for you
- Improving your soft skills is the best way to stand out in a talented pool
- “Winners never quit” is just misguided: winners quit all the time
- Chris focuses on case studies: showing real people making a living from doing what they love
- 30:11 – Innovate – a session on creativity and business with artists, performers, and musicians
- 00 – KIVA – a microloans organisation that allows people in developing countries to build their businesses.
- 35:18 – Question from Kyle: Amazon recently started a programme called Merch. I wondered if you’d be interested in having me design 48 Days T-shirts.
- 36:20 – Question from Jeremy: I noticed you don’t offer T-shirts on your site – how would you feel about me making and selling 48 Days shirts?
- I love the idea and I’m keen for you guys to make money – but I have a trademark on anything connected with 48 Days. It opens a can of worms if you guys do your own thing.
- I don’t necessarily have a problem with you making things, but please do run everything by me. I’d like to review the designs and I need to be sure about the quality.
- 39:30 – Question from Erik: I’m a high school teacher who’s trying my best to help my students find the positive role models they lack. I’ve started a podcast and I’d be honoured if you’d be a guest and talk to my students on it.
- Erik’s podcast ‘How to Be a Grown-up’ (Note: this site appears to be unavailable as of March 2018)
- 43:17 – Question from Alexandra: Coaching is my passion – but my husband and I live in Thailand. Can I start a coaching business from a foreign country?
- Yes, absolutely. It really doesn’t matter where you are: coaching is a portable business.
- To be a successful coach, you absolutely have to know what your goals are and what your aim is. Choose a niche.

3 Key Points:
- Life doesn’t come with guarantees. If you want to be an entrepreneur, be prepared to take risks.
- Take time regularly to evaluate what you’re doing and whether it benefits you. Do you enjoy your work and your life? What do you need to change to improve things?
- There’s no such thing as failure: either you win, or you learn. Commit to learning from your mistakes and you’ll never fail again.

Another great podcast to start my Saturday morning off! Went really good with the bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy I cooked for Gloria, Adam and I! 🙂
I just ordered and received “Born For This” and am looking forward to meeting up with Chris Guillebeau again when he comes to Nashville on April 21st. I remember his book tour well when he stopped in at The Sanctuary. That was a LOT of fun, roasting marshmallows and reuniting with a whole bunch of our 48 Days family.
ALSO, I hope the t-shirt thing comes to fruition. I would wear one with pride, and it would be great advertising too! Not that we aren’t already growing like crazy! 🙂
Archie – thanks so much for your comments. Yep – lots happening around here. It will be fun to have Chris G back in town.
Are you going to his event? I’m not really sure where The Weld is. I’m thinking it is down town Nashville.
