I’m creating a course. How long should an online course be?

We have a lady who went from being on welfare to creating a course on how to make sourdough bread. She’s made $173,000 on short, $12 courses. I have never had anyone complain about a course being too short. Amy Porterfield is the best source for the information on creating a course. Get her free starter kit here. She says there are 5 different types of courses:

• a workshop course addresses a specific immediate challenge (20-30 minutes in in length)
• starter course that gives you a little more info and how to (2 hours in length)
• spotlight course that dives into one area only (less than an hour)
• signature course that covers a much wider curriculum (like our Online 48 Days To the Work You Love Seminar)
• certification course that takes place over a series of weeks (like our Coaching Mastery Program)

Start with what it is you are trying to convey. Don’t make it artificially long because you think people are going to be attracted to a longer course.

How can I leverage my knowledge about security into online and offline income?

Having specific knowledge lends itself to all the things in the Venn Diagram You could consider:

• writing an ebook
• creating a course
• developing a workshop
• speaking at events
• starting a membership site
• developing a resource site with affiliate products

Is it possible to train myself into a new career?

Choose 3-4 courses in a specific area and become an expert in that area. One of my go-to resources in technology is Shawn Lemon. Check out what he does here. Josh is a perfect example. He dedicated 21 hours per week to learning software development for seven months.
