Conventional wisdom tells us that difficulty is something to be avoided – that it is a setback that leaves you worse off than you would be otherwise. But the reality is those difficulties often set us up for our biggest wins. David was small, with no military equipment or experience. But that “disadvantage” allowed him to outmaneuver the massively prepared Goliath. What if instead of avoiding your difficulty, you looked for how it may be opening the door to your greatest win.

My story can be framed by:
- poverty
- getting out of bed at 5 am to do farm chores at the age of 5
- rigid and somber home with little laughter
- no help financially from family for college
Were they disadvantages or desirable difficulties?
- I had the opportunity to experience real work
- I become an avid reader with no TV or radio in the home
- we learned how to make good use out of everything
- I valued the education I was paying for
- I value the work ethic and uncompromising integrity I learned
