Plan Your Life or Plan Your Work?
Episode #914 July 28, 2023
We talk a lot about finding or creating work that is meaningful, purposeful, and profitable. But is that really the most important thing? Sometimes there are stepping stones to getting where we really want to be and today we’re going to address how to decide on the life you want first – then you have the freedom to change.
Stick around – I’m going to be talking with my friend Michael McGreevy about how he has changed his work – to fit the life he wants to live.
Michael McGreevy’s Story and His Plan for Life
Michael used to work in construction and enjoyed interacting with clients, but he realized that he found the most joy in helping them move forward in their lives. Inspired by podcasts and coaching programs, he discovered coaching as a profession and decided to pursue it despite his fears and anxieties. He listened to the 48 Days podcast while running his own residential remodeling business and felt a personal connection to the idea of designing his own work and life. He attended an event in Franklin, Tennessee, to meet Dan Miller, and was motivated to make changes in his career. Initially, he wanted to completely leave the construction industry but later realized that his experience could be an asset. He decided to keep his house and rent it out on Airbnb, expanding to another property as well. He also obtained a real estate license and started helping others sell their homes. These endeavors aligned with his vision of having variety and flexibility in his life with his family. Michael recently started a new venture called The Forge, a community for men in his phase of life. The Forge aims to support and encourage men to live remarkable lives by offering mastermind groups and an online community. Find out more at TheForgeAlliance.com. Michael emphasizes the importance of staying true to one’s vocation, regardless of changes in job or career. He believes that regretting not pursuing one’s dreams is worse than trying and failing. He prioritizes his relationship with his wife and kids above all else, emphasizing the importance of balancing entrepreneurship and family life.Key Takeaways:
