Can I survive with a passion or mission-based business?

how to make money in a mission-based business

James wonders if he can take his mission-based business idea and make it work. My response is that any business you consider should be a passion-based/mission-based business!! The only way you can maintain a business is if it blends your passion(mission), talent and money. I give several examples of how even ideas based on serving others well can survive and thrive.

Episode #668 June 14, 2019 –

Hi, this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable.  This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die.  Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.

Questions:

What are your thoughts on my mission-based/passion-based business ideas?

Three legs of the stool of business success.

I describe my business as “not only for profit.”

Take your seed of an idea and let’s look at ways we can unpack that so it can make you money.

You have to create a clear plan. You can’t just have a heart for ministry and hope that God is going to dump money into your pocket.

It can be tough to wade into this territory.

Copyright addresses specific words. Rule of thumb: if you share something that’s less than 250 words, you just give attribution. If over 250 words, you need to get permission from the original publisher.

Copyright does not protect ideas, procedures, processes, systems, methods of operation, concepts, principles or discovery. It protects the words.

There is professional liability insurance for writing and publishing.

How can I negotiate a higher salary than what was offered?

The timing of asking for more is critical. Don’t get into this negotiation too early. But if you’ve already agreed to work for a year, then it’s too late.

The sweet spot is at the point when they know you are the person they would most prefer in that position and you know that’s where you want to work. When the offer comes in, you can then begin to negotiate.
