Great podcast as usual Dan. I love your inspiration you bring every Friday! No. 4 resonated with me significantly, I’ve been meaning to ask a similar question for a while now. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dan for answering my question. The examples are great and point me in the right direction. I have decided to start a podcast on the topic of Biblical masculinity. My first goal after I launch the podcast is to sell a simple infoproduct. I am not sure if it should be an e-book or audio file with a pdf checklist, but that will be something I will ask my audience once I build it. I live in New Mexico and there are a lot of places to host an event. After thinking about your suggestions, I am planning a father son retreat on a shooting range with cabins.
Your way of thinking and advice is by far the most relate-able compared to many other business people online. I look forward to sharing how this plays out, but I look forward to learning more from you!
Dan- to the fellow whose wife is skeptical. It may not be about the business so much as how his taking on another thing will affect HER life. He needs to be sure that he’s listening between the lines.
And to the fellow who has lots of talents, I’m the same way. You have to jump in and do something, anything. The talents will find their way into all that you do. I’ve owned two successful businesses and once you make the commitment, magic happens.
Hi Dan,
What are your recommendations for somebody looking to get back into the job market after many years of self-employment?
Before you ask, there are two reasons I want to do this. First, I’d like to increase our household income while my latest business gets off the ground. Secondly, I really believe what I’ve learned being self-employed will make me a real asset to any company looking to get to the next level.
I have 48DTTWYL and plan on contacting many employers whose offerings coincide with my interests and experience. Beyond that, anything you could tell me would be appreciated.
Gratefully,
Jeff
Jeff,
Just make sure you focus on areas of competence on your resume – rather than on the fact that you’ve been self-employed. Use a functional resume rather than a chronological one.
Thanks, Dan. Do you still recommend I change my prior job listing to “Worked at …” instead of “Owner ….” so as not to draw focus away from the areas of competence?
