| Alex Carroll Be an expert on a local radio show – or on shows all over the world. Alex Carroll has been on over 1000 radio interviews. His site is Radio Publicity. Alex sold his own little self-published book Beat the Cops by setting up his own radio interviews. As of the latest count, he’s done 1,264 radio interviews, grabbed more than $4,500,000 worth of free radio airtime and raked in $1,526,000 in direct sales … and is still going strong. Radio interviews are best – TV interviews are mediocre. And you can do radio interviews from home while TV interviews can require extensive time, travel and expense. |
| CrowdFunding CrowdFunding is a relatively new method of raising funds for a new business venture. People contribute money to your business start-up because they just like what you’re doing, enjoy being part of something innovative, or like the rewards you are offering. Most crowdfunding projects raise $5000 to $25,000. Love Cupcakes in San Jose, CA raised $8000 for their startup. For a $50 donation they would send you a dozen cupcakes. For $500 they named a cupcake after you. Sure I might send in $500 of my own money, knowing that people walking in the door of Love Cupcakes could choose the “Dan Miller” cupcake. Here are the most popular “CrowdFunding” sites. Each name is hyperlinked for further exploration. You’ll find some cater to artists, designers, inventors, musicians, social entrepreneurs, and more. KickStarterWhen Donald Miller announced that a movie based on his book Blue Like Jazz had been put on hold because there was not enough funding, a couple of fans decided to take matters into their own hands. They placed a notice on KickStarter and said they wanted to raise $125,000 to complete the movie production. As of 02-02-11 they have $345,992 pledged. | Copyrights A copyright is the legal protection for patterns, board games, newspapers, articles, books, music, computer software, plays, poetry, movies, maps and drawings – among many other things.As opposed to patents and trademarks, a copyright exists automatically upon the creation of the work. I know this is hard to understand, but if you write a book, no registration is necessary for it to be copyrighted. Copyright originates automatically and immediately when the work is created. And yes, you can use the © symbol just to remind anyone that copyright protection is being claimed on this work. (Incidentally, I am pulling these symbols from “Insert” on the Microsoft Word toolbar at the top of the page. It’s easy to pick and insert any symbol you need.
