You’ve got to taste your dream. When I was a kid dreaming of owning a fine car I hung out with friends who already had theirs. When I dreamed of making more money I spent time with families who were making 10x what my family was. When I was dreaming of increasing my influence I found ways to be around people like Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy and Mark Victor Hansen.
Episode #904 June 23, 2023
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
Thank you for being a listener of this podcast. I love hearing from you and being allowed to think through the questions we all have about finding or creating work that matters, for people who care.
Questions:
I’m in a job I hate but it’s stable. Should I really attempt to change?
You’ve got to have a dream beyond just work.
Work is a tool for a successful life. It’s not the end game.
How do you rest in the Lord and not work in your own strength to accomplish things?
Sometimes praying and resting in the Lord become excuses for indecision and lack of action.
Sometimes action is in your best interest rather than just waiting.
In Exodus, God commands Moses to “Quit praying and get the people moving. Forward march.”
I think we need to be participants in our success.
“I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.” — Frederick Douglass
Find out more about my thoughts on this here.
God provides for the birds, but he doesn’t just show up and throw food in their nests.
Sometimes the exercise of faith we need most may be to engage our lives, our time, our money and our resources and action to accompany our prayers.
That’s how I believe we balance resting with taking specific action based on what my dreams are calling me to.
I have a dream but I don’t know what to do or where to start.
Having the dream is such a great start. Now look at how you can begin to taste your dream.
Connect with an organization like Leaving the Cocoon.
I am a single mother of three. I have always worked and enjoyed my work but recently I have been convicted of a felony.
What’s your dream? What do you want your life to look like three years from now? If you can get clear on that and begin to look at ways you can taste your dream, then we can develop a plan of action.
Two weeks after your response I quit that job and began bookkeeping for small businesses.
I did leave my 1-hour 15-minute commute and found a job closer to home.
You’ve got to taste your dream. If you don’t taste your dream, you’ll likely die without living your dream. We’d like to give you the tools to help you do that.
• The 48 Days Eagles Community – A Dream Lab to help you clarify and achieve your dream
• The Will It Fly Event in Sarasota, FL, August 10-12th, where we’ll be focusing on your dream, helping you taste it and develop a plan to make it happen. This is where you’ll be able to fellowship with like-minded dreamers who are not just dreaming, but are taking action.
Steps to Turn Your Dream Into Reality
1 – Define Your Dream. Get specific about what your dream is.
2 – Taste Your Dream. Find ways to experience what it will look like when you achieve your dream.
3 – Create a Plan. Develop a roadmap that outlines the necessary steps to achieve your goal.
4 – Take Action. Begin with the tasks that are within your control and can be accomplished right away.
5 – Seek Knowledge and Skills. Spend time with people who are already doing what you’re wanting to do. Do the research.
6 – Stay Motivated. Remind yourself of the reason and purpose for your dream. Surround yourself with people who will support you on the journey.
7 – Celebrate Milestones. Acknowledge your progress and reward yourself when you reach those benchmarks.
