Hope deferred makes the heart sick…..

In this time of year I’m hearing lots of people talk about their hopes and dreams for next year.   And yet some of those same people will see 2012 come and go with no noticeable change in their lives.  Why is it that some people dream and their lives never change while others dream and walk into new successes every day?  Just yesterday a 48Days Blog reader commented about how “liberating” it was to live a creative, entrepreneurial life.  And then he added – “Admittedly, I speak not from experience, but anticipation.”

How do we move from anticipation to real experience?

Let’s walk through the process:

  1. Imagination
  2. Dreaming
  3. Anticipation
  4. Goal Setting – creating a timeline
  5. Plan of Action
  6. ACT
  7. Changed life – dreams realized*

So it should be easy to find where you are in this sequence.

“Success is never an accident.  It typically starts as imagination, becomes a dream, stimulates a goal, grows into a plan of action – which then inevitably meets with opportunity.  Don’t get stuck along the way.”  Dan Miller

Anticipation can be exhilarating.  But that will turn to bitterness and anger if you get stuck there.

Remember Proverbs 13:11-13
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” (NIV)
