I just saw a Facebook post from a lady who claims to be able to tell the future. And she had some predictions about the current political races. Well, I’m not a psychic, fortune teller or prophet but I can predict your future with an amazing degree of accuracy. I can’t see into your mind and I don’t need to know your history, your degrees or your family.
All I need to do is spend a day with you and:
- Listen to what you say
- Watch what you do
Your words and your actions will tell me exactly where you are going to be five years from now.
One of our 48 Days Coaches just had a conversation with an old friend of his who predicted what his day would hold — as they parted the friend said: “I’d better go see who won’t hire me today.”
What do you think he will experience in the workplace? His expectations that we are in a slow economy, everyone is waiting to see how the political process plays out and no companies are hiring will be confirmed by the words he is speaking in advance.
I ran into a guy in Best Buy who said he had downloaded my 48 Low-Cost Business Ideas. Then he added, “But I’m a technology guy so none of those would work for me.” That list links to another 1000 ideas, but he’s absolutely right. None of those will work for him.
The Bible is clear about the power of our words. Check this out from The Message: “It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.” James 3:4-6
Your life five years from now will not be determined by the economy, the people in the White House, your education, luck, the lottery or your astrological sign.
It will be determined by your words and your actions today. What kind of future are you creating?
Greetings Dan,
Much, no everything, is impacted by our mindset and self talk. in recent times I have begun to be much more mindful and intentional with what I say to myself. Tools like meditation, the self talk cards your son Kevin speaks of during the Ziglar podcast and other daily routines have been quite beneficial. Pushing negative scripts out of our minds and replacing them with positive internal dialogue has a big impact. This is an active, intentional process. For years I have thought that the healthier a person, the more quickly they recognize and actively reduce their negativity or reduce contact with others who are negative. We are either people attracters or people repellers. Being an attracter is a lot more fun. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have paraphrased your thoughts about knowing whether other people are those you can spend 3 minutes, 3 hours or 3 days with. Thanks once again!
Paul,
I’m delighted to hear about these principles you’ve been practicing and building in as habits. They can separate you from the “wandering generalities” very quickly and open the door to the kind of life worth living. Thanks for sharing what’s working for you.
Hi Dan!
Just a quick note to say that I always feel uplifted when I listen to your podcast or read your newsletter, and I would say that you have given me hope but I think it is more that you have made me *aware* of hope. It was there all along! Interesting side note…….I am a teacher, but working toward another line of work, and I was just looking at my calendar and realized that when we come back to school from spring break there will be 48 days school days left!!! 🙂 Made me smile!
Dan, I agree so much!! Our mindset and our actions based on it determine our direction and accomplishment. Though there maybe some rough spots, we can guide through them with our thoughts and actions.
Paul Vandermill commented that he is being more intentional. Dr. Randy Carlson of Intentional Living stresses being intentional everyday in the things we do as a means of staying on track and making positive change within and without.
Absolutely agree! Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21) Words are so powerful that at my church, Victory Tulsa, we have a pre-service confession that is said in the adult, college age, youth and children services (we call it the Victory Confession): “I’m here on purpose because I have a purpose, My heart is open, my mind is ready to receive because God is not finished with me yet. My best days are right in front of me and I have victory in my life because Jesus lives in me.” What is your confession? Which fruit are you eating?
