Today, November 14th, is a big day for me! It’s 48 Days until the New Year rolls in. And as such I always have my goals clearly laid out for the coming year. So I’ve already decided what I’m going to accomplish next year.
Management guru Peter Drucker always recommended that you examine every part of your business regularly to determine if there is anything you are doing now that you wouldn’t do again if you could start over.
What if you did this Zero-Based planning for your LIFE? If you could wipe the slate clean and look at your life in this way, what would you change? The real hallmark of truly successful people is not that they do more but that they can decide what they are going to stop doing. What are you going to Stop Doing on January 1st?
I’ve spent segments of the last two weeks working on my goals for 2017. I’ve always enjoyed the process of clarifying my own direction, and I’m using my
2017 Goal Setting Workbook
And every year I’m surprised at the new insights I get. I think through questions like:
“If the last year were a movie of your life, what would the genre be? Drama, romance, adventure, comedy, tragedy, or a combination?”
“If you know what you want, what’s holding you back?”
“What am I going to STOP doing in order to free up time for what is most important?”
There are guidelines for defining success in 7 different areas of your life. I am deciding now what I want my life to look like next year in – physical, financial, social, spiritual, family, personal development and career areas.
I also remind myself that people who decide in advance what their year will look like:
- make more money
- are more productive
- are healthier and live longer
- are happier and more satisfied in their lives
I’m totally jazzed about what I’m getting down on paper for 2017. What about you? Check out my free
