Dan Miller’s Core 45-Minute CD
This is the foundational message for all of Dan’s 48 Days materials.
- Have you ever had a sense of “Calling” in your life?
- Are you where you thought you’d be at this stage of your life?
- Do you go home each night with a sense of meaning, purpose and accomplishment?
- If you want different results next year, what are you willing to change in what you’re doing now?
- 10 years after graduation, 80% of college graduates are working in something totally unrelated to their college major. There must be more than just education that causes us to choose a career path.
- “Find a job you love and you’ll never go to work again.” J.C. Penney
- If you don’t know your “calling” choosing a “job” is just a shot in the dark
Why do we work? Is it just for money or are there other reasons? With the average job now lasting 3.2 years, how can you maintain a clear sense of direction?
On this CD, Dan clarifies the distinctions between:
- Vocation – the big picture. Derived from the Latin word “vocare” which means “to call.” This must incorporate “calling,” “purpose,” “mission” and “destiny.” It’s what you’re doing in life that makes a difference, that builds meaning for you, and that leaves a legacy.
- Career – a subset of Vocation. There will be 8-10 careers that fulfill any “vocation.” Thus careers can change during your lifetime.
- Job – the most specific and immediate of the three terms. This is what you do daily to produce an income or paycheck. Jobs will come and go – we cannot prevent that. But changing or losing one’s job should never change your “Calling.”
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardl knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.” - James Michener
If you listen to this CD material and recognize you are already living out your “Calling,” then you don’t need any of our other resources. Congratulations!! If you recognize that you have not combined your work and your play – then welcome aboard. Be confident that there are new options for you and enjoy the process of discovery.
“48 Days,
As you can probably tell, procrastination is an area of opportunity for me to overcome. Do you know what prompted me to take action? Shortly before January 20th, 2005, I had listened to “Is Your Job Your Calling?” and was struck by the comfort and assurance in Dan’s voice. At that time, I was motivated to get going. So here I am. Not perfect, but in motion.”Bruce B
