= Dear = kevin,

I find that opportunities are all around. In the morning when I=92m out wa= lking, I see people building houses, planting landscapes, delivering dry-cl= eaning, driving trucks, washing windows and creating business on their tele= phones. Then I come back and open my email to a wealth of opportunities th= at fit me best.

Here=92s an example: I just checked the AARP website and find that the art= icle I wrote for the Nov/Dec issue is now posted. Follow Your Dream Nathan Sawaya, the famous Lego sculptor, and someone I=92ve highlighted = in this newsletter, created the artwork for this article. In the next two = weeks that magazine will go out to their 38 million readers. Obviously thi= s is a very powerful boost for sales of my products and services. Nathan a= nd I have both found ways to get a lot of mileage out of what we enjoy doin= g.

I share this to inspire you to look for ways you can leverage what it is th= at you do well. What is it that you could do one time and get paid ten tho= usand times?

********************************************
Okay -- some of you seriously disagreed with me about last week's article o= n hedonism -- where I suggested that a 53 year-old-friend was being selfish= and hedonistic for doing nothing. Some of you thought retiring young was = a reasonable goal. Some thought this was a well-deserved break from the "c= urse" of work that God gave us. And that I'm just one of a few lucky ones = who are actually able to be in work that I love. Just remember that succes= s and a fulfilling life is not common. I don't intend to justify or be con= tent with what is "common." I hope you don't either.

= 1. Early to Bed =96 Early to Rise=20 <= /TD>
= I grew up as a farm kid and often heard my Dad say, =93Ea= rly to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.=94 I= think he was just trying to make me feel better about having to get up at = 5:00 AM to milk those stinking cows. Well it turns out that more and more = people are having to get up early =96 just to beat the traffic for their lo= ng commutes. USA Today reports that over 15 million Americans are out th= e door before 6:00 AM to make it to work on time. The article referenced h= ere shares the story of Martha Perry of Wyandotte, Michigan, who spends 13 = hours at work each day to avoid heavy traffic coming and going. And she sa= ys that makes it hard to spend time with Isabella, her 2-yr-old daughter. = Well Duh!!

Now I know there are lots of unique situations =96 but 13-hr days? I=92d b= e exploring some new options tomorrow. And I=92ll bet if Martha calculate= d her gas, car depreciation, business clothing, and day care, she=92s proba= bly netting about $3 a week.

The concept of a 48 Days timeline (www.48Days.com) came out of the frustrat= ion I saw in people who had gotten a glimpse of what a better life could be= and yet they got trapped in their own version of the movie Groundhog Day = =96 where they simply repeated yesterday, over and over again. Is yo= ur current position the best possible choice for you?

If not, use the next 48 Days to clarify:

  • Where am I?

  • How can I gather the advice and opinion of others I respect?

  • What are my alternatives for moving toward the life I want?

  • What is the best plan of action?

  • What will I do immediately to start this plan of action?

= These are the Main Obstacles I hear:
1. Dan, You don=92t know my situation. I could never do that.
2. I=92m trapped where I am. I have no choices. Circumstances control me. (=93Lack of opportunity=94 is often nothing more than lack of
purpose or direction.)
3. Procrastination --
a. I=92ll wait till all the lights are green.
b. Till the kids are grown.
c. Till I get my college degree.
d. Till I get some money saved up.
4. Non-supportive friends and relatives.
5. I don=92t deserve anything better than what I have.

If you start today you can have a new work model in place by November 15th = -- and then sit back and enjoy the holidays, knowing you've in the driver's= seat to make 2008 the best year of your life.

The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opport= unity when it comes.

Okay =96 this format seems to be working well. Lots of you are submitting = questions =96 and I can scroll through them to answer as many as possible. = Just click on this email link and you can ask about resumes, interviewing,= at-home business or getting out of a negative partnership. AskDan@48Days.com

If you click on the 48 Days Podcast Player here you can listen to this week= =92s broadcast immediately =96 no downloading =96 no wait. http://www.48days.com/podcast.php

We=92ve had a lot of questions about Tim Knox not being on the show anymore= . Tim was driving from Huntsville, AL to Nashville, TN each week for our l= ive radio show. That required essentially seven hours out of his day. Nei= ther of us that thought that was reasonable. As I=92ve shared, since movin= g to the Internet, we=92ve had some challenges with the technology. So for= the time being I=92m going to be handling the show alone =96 minus Tim=92s= humor and business knowledge. Nothing changed in our friendship -- Tim ha= ndles all of the 48 Days website stuff and I'll be speaking at his upcoming= 3-day seminar. I=92m confident that the changing technology will continue = to give us new options in the very near future. We=92ll keep experimenting= with more possibilities.

Here are some questions answered in this week's 48-minute broadcast:

1. I am a professional interviewer going on interviews to jobs I really do= n't want. I find myself lost inside myself. What is the answer?

2. I've been given the opportunity to start a home business, but here's th= e biggest roadblock - FEAR! Each time I start looking at the process and w= hat I need to do to make the business successful, I freeze and stop taking = action! FEAR! Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear that I'll go broke.= .. you name it I fear it! Any "real-time" suggestions?

3. How do I know that what I really need is a new career rather than just = a change in attitude?

4. Dan, I am 67 years old, full of energy and need to do something constru= ctive everyday just to make me feel good about the day. I would love to go = back to work in sales, a field which I have spent 30 years. I have been den= ied a chance after 2 tries. I think it is because of my age. How can I get = over that hump?

5. I am in a 4 year old partnership, 5 people in all, that runs a restaura= nt. =85. It=92s like being in a sinking ship with a bucket that has a hole= in it.

You can submit your question right now =96 I=92ll work as many in as possib= le for this week's broadcast. AskDan@= 48Days.com

= 3. She Turned Her Idea Into A Reality!=20 <= /TD>
= Here is a classic example of somebody taking the 48 Days pri= nciples to heart and making it happen. Jackie Reeves is a single lady who h= as worked in a lot of jobs, from driving a truck to selling granite counter= tops. Her faith is important to her and she=92s a big believer in dwelling = on and living out the scripture. After seeing a vinyl application of words = done inside homes (like stenciling, but with high-quality adhesive stickers= ) she had the idea of doing it with scripture.

click here to enlarge the picture on the right!

She had already read =9148 Days To The Work You Love.=92 Next, she paid $13= 9 to participate in our =91E-Com= merce Gold=92 teleclass. Next, she hired my son Kevin to help her refin= e her idea. Then she went forward, contacted a manufacturing company, and g= ot her numbers together. She joined our 48 Days Coaching Connection to learn more about bus= iness and connect with other business people (and she=92s also become a sma= ll business coach for women!). Finally, she built a website...and now...her= hard work has come to fruition with Tapestry of Truth =96 Scriptural Art For Any Wall.

Visit her site and see what she=92s built. She=92s even agreed to give 48 D= ays subscribers a discount for trying it out.
Make a purchase, and get 20% off with this coupon code: 340414

Yes, that=92s Joanne and me in the picture (click here for a full size picture so you can see the scripture!= ). Check out the cool scripture on the wall over the bay window in= our living room. And incidentally, I did just what I'm suggesting you do = -- I went to the site, put in my discount code and ordered what you see her= e.

Now =96 there are 3 action points here. (1) You can order a beautiful ver= se or quotation to add personality to your home or office. (2) You can tak= e your own idea and take the steps to turn it into reality. Or you can (3)= Do nothing =96 and make tomorrow a carbon copy of today.

= Joe the lawyer died suddenly, at the age of 45. He got to th= e gates of Heaven, and the angel standing there said, "We've been waitin= g a long time for you."

"What do you mean,"
he replied, "I'm only 45, in the prime of my lif= e. Why did I have to die now?"

"45? You're not 45, you're 82,"
replied the angel.

"Wait a minute. If you think I'm 82 then you have the wrong guy. I'm onl= y 45. I can show you my birth certificate."

"Hold on. Let me go check,"
said the angel and disappeared inside. Afte= r a few minutes the angel returned. "Sorry, but by our records you are 8= 2. I checked all the hours you have billed your clients, and you have to be= 82..."

Work On Your Smile =96 Not Your Technology
According to a recent survey of 500 information technology chief informatio= n officers by CIO magazine, only 10 percent of them say that technical prof= iciency is an important skill to be successful.

The most important personal skills include:
--- Communication 70%
--- Understanding of the business 58%
--- Strategic planning 46%

I keep saying that 85% of a person=92s success is due to Personal Skills (a= ttitude, enthusiasm, smile, tone of voice, etc,) and only 15% due to Techni= cal Skill. Yet our universities continue to place all of their focus on t= he technical side.

Could you be your own boss?
