= 1. You make money doing what?=20 <= /TD>
= The things that people do to find creative, meaningful, and = profitable work continue to amaze even me. I believe there are thousands o= f ways to find work you love =96 and I am always thrilled to find that inge= nious people are coming up with even more.

Here are just a couple that have been brought to my attention recently:
=
1. Nathan Sawaya builds Lego sculptures. He abandoned a career as an attor= ney in 2004 to take on LEGO sculpting fulltime. As a 33 yr-old he=92s take= n a childhood pleasure and turned it into a serious profession. You won= =92t believe his creations: Lego Sculptures
2. In the picture here you see the work of an artist who was commissioned t= o transform some storm damaged trees into permanent works of art.

3. And yes, there are people making a living as crossword-puzzle makers, cl= owns, magicians, wire walkers, philologists, librettists, and graphologists= .

Here=92s a book you may want to check out if you feel like you=92re still f= ishing for that perfect fit.

= 2. And Joanne Says.....=20 <= /TD>
= Here's a question I received this week from a reader. While= my wife Joanne is not involved in the day-to-day operations of 48 Days, LL= C, she understands the principles for career and business success very well= and is still my most trusted sounding board. She volunteered to answer th= is question =96 and you=92ll see why I trust her wisdom on most any topic.<= br>
Dan,
I recently started a barber shop. I have accommodated costumers for the mo= st part with a clean place and Christian atmosphere, but am seeing an unend= ing stream of suggestions of what I need to do and need to add to the busin= ess. At what point do I draw a distinct line between customer satisfaction= and just letting it run its course as a business?

Paul.....Dan forwarded me the note about your barbershop question because w= e just had a conversation about a very similar situation today over lunch. = By the way, I am Dan's wife and partner in business and life! There is li= ttle he does or says I don't know about so I feel confident I can answer yo= ur question.

Today I was telling Dan about an exercise place where I work out severa= l times a week. It is a well-known chain but is a franchise so each one may= have different owners. This particular one where I go is nice, clean and = friendly. However, I was telling Dan there are soooo many things I can see = that leads me to believe the owner is rather chintzy and tight-fisted where= customer service and good marketing comes into play. It's like he does th= e bare minimum to make it comfortable but not the extra "added value" that = I would like to see in any well-run business.

In any business, as in any area of life, the Law of the Harvest is a go= od rule of thumb to assure customer satisfaction and enthusiasm. Recently = a potential advertiser for Dan's radio show told us that she was told NEVER= to give away product. That is a classic mistake that business people make= who don't understand marketing and how the Law of the Harvest helps them b= ecome above average in their business.

I can't begin to tell you how much product, coaching, advise, time....e= tc....that both Dan and I have given away in the past 20 years. So much so= that sometimes we feared we would not be able to put food on the table. Bu= t we always believed that we would "reap far more than we sowed" and that G= od would richly bless our generosity. And He has....over and over again.
I also can't tell you how many times clients, customers, fellow coaches, f= riends and family have given us valuable suggestions to improve a part of o= ur business and we always LISTEN and implement when feasible.

Just having a clean, Christian atmosphere is not enough to keep people enth= usiastic about coming to your business establishment. We live in a marketin= g driven society and customers have far too many choices to remain loyal to= a place just because it is "clean and Christian". We believe that if you = are truly portraying a Christian business then you need to be NOTCHES above= all other competitors. God calls us out to BE OUR BEST in everything we d= o. We don't take that lightly. We strive at 48 Days to be BETTER...offer = better products, offer good and reasonable prices, offer amazing customer s= ervice, etc.

So, Paul....I say all this to encourage you to LISTEN to your customers. If= they are telling you suggestions to make your establishment better, take t= hose suggestions seriously. That doesn't mean you need to implement all of= them. Some may not be at all within your realm of finances or expertise bu= t some of the ideas might just put you a notch better than the competition = and give you more word-of-mouth advertising than you ever dreamed.

Hope this helps to answer your question. Keep us posted on what you decide= to do and how it pays off! Blessings, Joanne Miller
