= Recently I had the privilege of hearing John Sage speak on s= ocial entrepreneurship. John began his career at Microsoft where he introd= uced Windows to the world. After that amazing success he registered for se= minary but quickly realized he would be stifled in that environment. Inste= ad, he recognized he could use his =93capitalistic addiction=94 as his most= effective tool for ministry and to create good in the world.

With a desire to help his college roommate in his efforts with the poor chi= ldren of Peru, John and this roommate founded Pura Vida Coffee where they sell fair trade, organic, shade= -grown coffee. The company has grown dramatically and is a great example o= f =93Compassionate Capitalism.=94 Customers not only buy coffee but ask ho= w they can donate beyond that to participate in helping the children in the= countries where the coffee is grown.

I love this growing awareness of =93social entrepreneurship=94 or the under= standing that we can shift capitalism to create good. Many of us come from= backgrounds that make us question if making money is somehow moving away f= rom doing true ministry. I am convinced it is the most effective and most = direct path to actually increasing our ministry efforts.

In his presentation John emphasized that we have to compete on quality and = value to earn the right to ask people to support our causes. We can=92t of= fer shoddy service, leaky roofs or rotten coffee and expect people to get e= xcited about helping us in out worthy endeavors. We have to be the very be= st =96 then people will be proud to be a part of what=92s most important to= us.

Cutting edge capitalism may be the best way for you to provide for your fam= ily =96 AND be a force for Godly humanitarianism.

= When you pull up to your local fast-food drive-through windo= w, the voice you hear may be coming from someone several states away. In a= test program, Wendy=92s is using workers at one centralized location to ha= ndle the orders for five states. Rather than having in store workers inter= rupt making food to take a drive-up order, these phone workers do nothing b= ut take orders. Customers must be greeted within 6 seconds 95% of the time= .

American=92s have become used to fast meaning =93fast.=94 They will switch= eating establishments over length of the line or having to wait an extra 3= 0 seconds.

This is just another example of the changing work environment. What part o= f your job could be done by someone in another state =96 or on the other si= de of the world? What can you do to make yourself irreplaceable?
