“With vision there is no room to be frightened. No reason for intimidation. It’s time to march forward! Let’s be confident and positive!” Charles Swindoll

What vision have you spent years talking about but never accomplished? You may have wasted valuable time saying, “One day I am going start my own business, next month I will start a savings plan or next year I am going back to school”. Seven years, ten jobs and a pile of bills later, you are still saying the same thing. Life is moving and you are still stuck singing the same old song.

Is that doodoo on your hands – or “humus?”

If you are a backyard gardener as I am, you appreciate the value of humus – the decayed leaves and vegetable matter that feeds the roots of your new plants. It’s interesting to note that the same root word for “humus” gives rise to the word “humility.” This helps me understand that the “humiliating” events of my life, the events that leave “mud on my face” and when I think everything is rotting away, may in fact be the fertilizer in which something new and great can grow.

24 years ago I crashed and burned in my business. Handshake relationships with the bank changed and
my notes were called. I was forced into selling a health and fitness center at auction, resulting in owing over $430,000  - much of that to the IRS. That “humiliating” experience  refined my thinking and understanding of business.

Want a new opportunity?

The real act of discovery is not in finding new lands,

but in seeing with new eyes.

God keeps closing the door on my calling….

Last Sunday night, after speaking at a church, a lady approached me with her question. She was obviously very discouraged with low self-esteem, poor eye contact and overall weak personal presentation.  But her question was – “Why should I keep trying when God keeps closing the door on my calling?”  Wow – now there’s a question designed to stump even a theologian – which I am not.  If God “calls” us to something, wouldn’t He open the doors to make that happen?  Is this like asking if God can make a rock so big He can’t move it?

Monday Prayer for Work

Monday Prayer for Work
Lord, Help me to always give 100% at work…..
12% on Monday
23% on Tuesday
40% on Wednesday
20% on Thursday
5% on Friday

Okay I know that’s not your plan.  You are likely one who always gives 100% to whatever you do.  We hear a lot about people who give 110%.  I know that sounds kinda cool but I’ll settle for just a solid 100% on whatever needs to be done.  Frankly, when I hear that someone is giving 110% at work I fear he/she is perhaps borrowing that extra 10% from some other important area of life.  That may mean you’re giving 90% to being the husband or dad you want to be.   Or ignoring keeping yourself sharp physically by skipping those 30-minute morning workouts.
