What if I want the boss to be me?

    Read it:
Okay – what if this whole process of looking for one more job leaves you cold? You still have trouble seeing the right “fit” in a company and the prospect of once again being vulnerable to the politics of a company doesn’t exactly light you up. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve had to do a job search or maybe the thought of having a boss half your age is not very appealing. Don’t be discouraged! That in itself is part of this process of clarifying what does “fit” for you. And you can choose the work that best “fits” you, work that fills you with excitement and passion every day. You really can anticipate work that makes you want to get up in the morning; work that says, “This is why I was born!”

Maybe it’s time to be your own boss – yes, to be the boss you always wanted to have. If you are a typical candidate for self-employment, you may never have been real clear on what you wanted to do “when you grew up”. The traditional path may never have been appealing and the attempt to be a good employee may have always been frustrating. Don’t despair! Perhaps you just need a new work model. Even if you thought you knew where you were going, change may have hit you unexpectedly. Downsizings, outsourcings, re-organizations, and management adjustments may have forced you to take a fresh look at where you are and where you are going. Congratulations! Those very factors may just have offered you a new and better option!

Out of the frustration, discouragement, and intimidation, you may recognize excitement and hope just over the horizon. The opportunities in today’s new work environment may be leading you to new and higher levels of success. You may recognize that you have multiple areas of competence and that your years of working for companies has given you training in pretty much every aspect of running the company yourself. This may be your time to just tweak the work model, giving you the time control and open-ended income you really want.

As you work through this process, BE ENCOURAGED! THERE IS HOPE! The options today are limitless. You really CAN be prepared, focused and ready to move forward with the confidence, boldness and enthusiasm that project you into the next opportunity. I am not suggesting that you jump off a cliff, so to speak, bet the farm or risk everything. Rather, I am suggesting that this may be a great time to explore all the new models for work that may give you more true sense of accomplishment, meaning, opportunity to serve others, and ultimately, real security.
