Work harder on yourself than on your job

1. I currently make decent money but my job makes me brain dead.

2. I’ve heard the middle class put their focus on saving while the rich put their focus on earning.

3. How do you process all the information from the books you read and the podcasts you listen to?

4. I am a nurse by profession- even though the world needs nurses, I don’t want to be one of them.

5. I read somewhere that a great way to boost your potential was to picture yourself as already having success and working backwards in your mind.

6. I’m tempted to go on my own but am afraid that then I’d just be a guy taking a walk, not leading at all.

This was a great podcast. It seems that the topic of how the wealthy think could be its own spinoff. Upon listening to you describe how to go about earning your way to wealth, and listening to you describe how you have created wealth quickly and efficiently rather looking for a salary from somebody, I was confronted with the holes in my own thinking and emotions. I realized how much more self-confidence you have than I have. That’s the missing link that not enough people talk about. I felt so impressed (and blown away) listening to how you solved your tax problem. I have to add this to my new year’s resolutions – developing unshakeable self-confidence. How does one go about this when their upbringing was so critical, harsh, and negative?

      Raven,
At some point we just need to look in the mirror and take full responsibility for the person we see. I had a lot of criticisms and negativity early on as well – but I kept reading and listening to high achievers to get me past that until my own successes had enough momentum to pull me through the low spots.

Thank you, Dan. If you can do it, then I can as well! : )

    • Wayne

Raven, you are actually almost there. You have already validated that the negative upbringing was powerful enough to keep you from confident living. Now that you are aware continue to drink more of what you want, speak less of where you came from and you will begin to possess what you desire. Even greater than this is your Heavenly Father is thinking some crazy great things about you from his creation plan. You’re asking the right questions from the right people, just keep shifting your focus forward.

Thank you, Wayne, for your encouraging words. I was actually surprised because I had thought I was already confident. But in listening to the actions of someone who is genuinely confident – how Dan masterfully handled his financial situation – I realized I have quite a ways to go. But as you say I will “continue to drink more of what I want and speak less of where I came from” and go from there. Those were great words! : )

Dan, great to have you on my radio show on December 31. Thanks for the great input for my audience. I wonder if it’s possible for you to post the text of the email you sent advertising your special service. I remember reading it, but I must not have saved it. I have an idea for a coaching service I can offer to people in my area of influence, and would like to review how you presented the concept. Thanks for all the great ideas!!

      Francis,

Thanks for having me on as your guest.

And here’s the link to the Living the Dream coaching package. It’s no longer live but you can see the original here – http://www.48days.com/living-the-dream/

I’ve definitely learned something today! Thanks Sutton, GREAT question! And thanks to Dan for your awesome perspective about earning and saving. I’ve never quite looked at it the way you explained it.

    • 48DaysDan

      Archie,
Sutton’s question was a very legitimate look into a common area. Where we look more at the problem than at a new solution.

  • Randy

Hi Dan, “work on yourself harder than working on your job” quote is from Jim Rohn. That is a snippet from The Art of Exceptional Living. GREAT PODCAST!

    • 48DaysDan

      Randy,
Thanks – Jim Rohn’s principles are fantastic.

  • Amber Hurdle

I knew I liked you! As a struggling single mom (who had a child at 16) I started creating vision boards with my toddler when I was 19. Today I have almost everything we put on the first one. It is powerful!

Also, my favorite book is A Man’s Search for Meaning and my leadership Bible is Good to Great. “Confronting the brutal facts, yet never losing faith” is my specialty. Every week I listen to your podcast. This week’s content compelled me to let you know that you rock my face off! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all!

      Amber,
Awesome – sounds like you’ve been planting the right seeds all along. This kind of input and imagining has to bear fruit. Thanks for being a listener.

The answer to number three stood out to me. We can get a “positive high” from books and podcasts and blog, but we have to stop and plant them in our lives.
    Thank you Dan.

I really enjoyed the enthusiasm and curiosity within this podcast. I definitely came away with greater motivation, and a desire to check out your book.

    • 48DaysDan

Thanks – doing the podcast remains one of the high points of my week.
