This morning I was listening to the current Success Magazine audio CD.
Darren Hardy interviewed Dr. Mehmet Oz (on the front cover of Success this month). Darren asked him what it required to be healthy.
Dr. Oz says there are only three components:
- Exercise – elevated heart rate for 30 minutes 3-4 times a week
- Eat Right
- Have a purpose for living
Whoa – here’s a world class heart surgeon who says one of the top priorities for living well is to have a purpose for living. Do you know yours?
Sometimes I talk to people who have been struggling for years to “discover
their purpose.” I think we often make that some big, supernatural, Mt. Sinai kind of experience and ignore what’s right in front of us. Knowing your purpose doesn’t have to mean you will be the next Mother Teresa or Billy Graham. It may mean that you are a faithful school teacher, neighbor, cookie maker or Wal-Mart greeter.
Here’s an uncomplicated process for knowing your purpose:
What is the thing that I do that convinces me I’m making a difference?
Knowing your purpose doesn’t have to be big or original – it just has to be “you.” Exercising and eating right may seem more tangible but you can know your purpose and be acting in that area today. Do all three and expect your own unique success to show up immediately.
