Is 48 Days just hype?

The questions we get every day do a great job of telling the real stories of real people.  Here’s a recent one:

“Dan, is your 48 Days a self-help program and will it find me a better job or is that all hype to sell your book?  If it does work do you have any proof of this?  I am a cynic as I believe you are trying to sell me something that may not work just so you can get rich.”

48 Days to the Work You Love

Dan was recently interviewed by Greg Corombos of Business Owner’s Toolkit.  In this podcast, Greg and Dan discuss how to find work you love in just 48 days, how to determine what type of business will give you the greatest satisfaction and how to avoid burnout no matter how much you love your work. Plus, John Duoba explains how some states are much more hospitable to small businesses than others in our Top Takeaway for Your Small Business.  You can listen to it here.

I’m dismal at Sales

1.  Having taken your Personality Profile I found that I have none of the characteristics needed to sell myself. How do I overcome this problem as I work to create an income from home with my own business? I love helping and teaching people one on one and have many skills but am dismal at sales of any kind. Please help!

Jelly on your hands

Yes, some people just delight in pointing out our weaknesses.

The comic strip, Peanuts, has some excellent examples of the obstacles we all encounter.  One of my favorite examples involves Lucy and her little brother, Linus, who is constantly hanging onto his security blanket.

In this particular cartoon, Linus is in the kitchen, eating a jelly sandwich.  As he finishes the sandwich, for the first time in his life, he notices the hand that held the sandwich.  He begins to admire the hand.  Then, without realizing it, he drops his security blanket and admires the other hand.  He begins to imagine that with these hands he could be anything:  the CEO of a company, a great leader, a pro basketball player, a surgeon, a novelist – even the President!

Please don’t make any extra money

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post titled Hourly Pay Will Keep You Poor.  In that I stated that a 3-4% increase in pay would probably never make you rich.  The best way to break out of the poorhouse immediately is to start a business of your own — and I went on to describe various ways to generate at least another $2600 a month.

Well, some readers got bogged down in trying to calculate “net” vs “gross” and complained about how then you would have”overhead.”   Furthermore, the IRS would be looking at every dollar and you would have to pay taxes on the extra money.
